Alcyone Collies & Shibas is a hobby kennel located in the Spokane, Washington area.
My focus is on breed standard, structure, temperament, and health.
I am a member of Collie Club of America, Collie Health Foundation, Inland Empire Collie Club, Evergreen Shiba Inu Club, and Spokane Dog Training Club. I find it very important to be involved in dog clubs, as well as to continuously learn about canine health and how to breed healthy and temperamentally sound dogs. All while remaining mindful and active in adhering to the breed standard.

I began my dog show journey in junior showmanship and 4H with a pet quality Shiba Inu in 2007. I have had Shibas ever since. I have competed in rally, obedience, agility, and conformation with my Shibas.
I began my journey with Collies in 2012, co-owning a Smooth Collie for junior showmanship. It wasn't until 2019 that I got a Collie that actually resided with me, but I have been active in the breed ever since.

Understanding canine behavior, proper structure, breed standards, and health has been a passion of mine for most of my life. My goal is to better the breeds I am involved in by producing temperamentally stable, healthy, and structurally sound dogs that are well prepared to be good companions and canine citizens.
I health test all of my dogs with reputable canine genetic testing companies, as well as complete the recommended Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) evaluations.
All puppies that I whelp are raised with Puppy Culture protocols and are crate trained prior to going to new homes.

To better myself and my dogs, I attend breeder and judges education seminars for Collies and Shibas whenever possible. I am regularly enrolled in Obedience, Agility, and other training classes to continue learning how to better train my dogs. I compete in Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Rally, and other events to test my abilities as a trainer and to prove my dogs' capabilities. (Primarily through the American Kennel Club, though I do dabble in United Kennel Club events from time to time.)

Working a full time office job doesn't make looking at a screen after work very easy :)
